MoonPhase

The moon in your menu bar.

A tiny menu‑bar utility that graphically shows the current phase of the moon, exactly as it looks tonight. The details — phase name, illumination, moon age, and the next new and full moon — are one click away.

Version 2026.1.1 for macOS and Linux, released 9 September 2026 · Windows 2026.1.0, 4 September 2026 · signed; installs itself to your Applications or Programs folder and updates itself

The .deb is for Debian, Ubuntu, and Mint; the .rpm for Fedora. KDE Plasma shows the tray icon natively; GNOME needs the AppIndicator extension.

Runs entirely on your own machine — the phase is calculated locally, not fetched. The only connection it makes is a daily update check against this site.

The real moon, drawn live.

The icon isn't a stock glyph — it's the moon's actual illuminated fraction, redrawn as the phase changes. A 95% moon looks like a 95% moon.

Details one click away.

Phase name, illumination percentage, moon age in days, and the dates of the next new and full moon — without opening an app or a browser tab.

Keeps itself current.

Automatic updates built in: MoonPhase checks quietly, asks before installing, and verifies every download is signed by Scratch Itch Software.
